About our effort
First and foremost, This is a nonpartisan effort, we do not support any political group or politician, period.
This is a charter amendment that will take the power and control from local government and place the power and control back where it rightfully belongs in the hands of the people. This law removes the right for Cites and Towns in Shelby County to lay claim to unincorporated areas of the county in the form of reserved annexation area. The municipalities will then be required to have the areas in which they want to incorporate vote to be taken in. If the unincorporated area voters vote NO then the town or city cannot annex the unincorporated area. This law would also allow for areas of the city of Memphis which were annexed from 1970 to present to be de-annexed and returned to unincorporated areas. The areas will remain de-annexed until the citizens of that area vote to be incorporated or vote to incorporate into their own towns or cities. This amendment would truly put the power back into the hands of the people.
We need your help to make this a reality. We must collect 90,000 signatures from registered voters in Shelby County by 4:30 pm March 5, 2010. If accomplished the amendment will be placed on the August 2010 ballet to be voted into law for the citizens of Shelby County.
How can you help? You can help by downloading the amendment and the petition and begin soliciting as many signatures as possible from registered voters of Shelby County. After obtaining the said signatures you can contact Mark Skoda with the Memphis Tea Party, Mary Hill with the Campaign for Liberty, Joshua Fox, or Joseph Fox. All contact information is listed below. The petitions will be picked up from you. Signed petitions cannot be faxed or emailed they must be original copies.
We recommend downloading Shelby County Registration forms also so you can register individuals who might want to sign the petition and have not registered to vote. We will hand deliver their voter registration to the election commission.
